A short history
Findom is older than the drawn persona, and not much of its history is written down. This page keeps apart what the public record shows, what I’ve seen change over a few years, and what has no date at all.

Evidence
In 30 seconds
- Findom is older than 2DFD. Papers and press describe it from 2007 onward.
- Almost nothing has been written about the history of 2DFD itself. This page says so.
- Payment rails, shop platforms and social accounts have all vanished or changed with little warning.
- Tools came in layers and in a race to release, and safeguards often came last.
- Dated proof and personal memory are kept apart here, and each is labelled.
You will learn
- What the public record says about findom, and when.
- Which rails and platforms changed in 2024, and why that matters to you.
- How techdom tools grew, and what a release race does to safety.
- Why no one account, rail or dom should hold everything you have.
- How to tell a dated fact from a memory.
I’m a young character in an old scene, and the scene has a short memory. Where I can’t date something, I say so.

These are the years things were published. They tell you when someone wrote about the scene, and nothing about when it began. I found no sourced history of the 2000s, of the first drawn or animated personas, or of who first wrote 2DFD2DFDOnline findom with a 2D persona in place of a real person’s face and voice, and whoever runs her stays out of sight. Most people read it as “2D findom”, but that’s a guess, because no glossary spells it out. Doms often put the label in their display name or bio, and if it’s missing, the dom may be playing a role without asking for money.. UnverifiedPlausible, not proven yet.
Some doms come to 2DFD after working with real people they met through chat servers and online forms, and they bring the habits with them. One of them is living off a few payers. Vivian’s field notesFirst-hand experience, not a study.
The rails keep moving
In recent years the scene has leaned on two things: the payment rails, and the platforms where people find a persona. Both can change with little warning. Vivian’s field notesFirst-hand experience, not a study.
The rails in 2024, unverified
2024
A wishlistwishlistA public list of gifts a creator accepts. Researchers describe findommes being paid in wishlist gifts. In the scene it works as a price menu and the main route for sends, and the wishlist platform has its own terms and a fee. site used by findommes was reported to have lost its card processor, and no cause is confirmed. UnverifiedPlausible, not proven yet.
Some press tied it to a rule change by a processor, announced weeks earlier. I can’t confirm that, and no primary source I’ve read gives a cause. UnverifiedPlausible, not proven yet. Platforms also change their pages. A tool that relies on a page’s layout or item links can break without warning. Vivian’s field notesFirst-hand experience, not a study.
Red flags
Money left on a rail you don’t own
- A dom asks you to keep a balance, credit or prepaid amount with her
- You’re told a payment route is closing soon and pushed to spend what’s left on it
- The only way to reach the money is a login on someone else’s service
Counter. Keep your money in your own bank, send only what you planned to give, and count any balance on someone else’s rail as already gone. If you’re a dom selling through one rail, spread your income across routes you can name. Vivian’s field notesFirst-hand experience, not a study.
How the tools grew
TechdomtechdomDominance through technology, like extensions, apps or tools, so the dom earns without putting in live effort each time. It’s a game between consenting adults, always with a limit, a wait and a stop the sub controls. Remote access is never part of the game. tools came in layers, each one built because the audience asked for it, with no plan behind it. Within a year or two there were several kinds side by side: web hubs, browser extensions, fake-desktop apps and installable apps. Vivian’s field notesFirst-hand experience, not a study.
A wave of apps made to feel like gachagachaA pay-to-pull game where random rewards come out of draws. In 2DFD tools a pull can trigger a real wishlist purchase and give back a random card of the persona. Hidden odds, forced pulls and a guarantee that sits many pulls away are designs made to keep you pulling, so learn to spot them. games changed the scene. How much money those apps brought in tells you nothing about what happened to the people who paid it. Vivian’s field notesFirst-hand experience, not a study. See The spiral.
In a race to release, speed comes before safeguards like a limit, a wait and a stop. Safe design often means earning less, so in a race it’s the first thing cut. Building keeps getting easier, as more doms who can’t code learn to make tools with AI assistants. Copying a tool is cheap, so if you’re new, look at what already exists before you spend months on one idea. Vivian’s field notesFirst-hand experience, not a study. See Techdom.
People, accounts and quiet servers
Waves of suspensions for inauthentic behaviour have hit doms and subs on the main social platform, and appeals often get no answer. An account that’s labelled or suppressed is treated as lost: its posts reach a fraction of the usual audience, even when they’re good. Vivian’s field notesFirst-hand experience, not a study. Whether a new account counts as dodging an earlier ban is up to the platform and its own rules. I don’t describe ways around a ban here.
A persona can also change theme over time, and then the bio, the hook line and the site all have to be rewritten together. Trends pull hard, and attention moves to whichever character is newest. Vivian’s field notesFirst-hand experience, not a study.
If an account or a rail disappears
Keep one page you own, such as a site, that lists where you can be found.
Keep copies of your own art and text outside any one platform.
If you’re a sub, don’t keep a balance or prepaid credit with a dom, and expect that she may vanish.
Write down the date and what you sent, in case you need it later.
What is proved and what is memory
What I know from the inside covers a short time in one corner of the scene: techdom, chat servers and wishlists. Vivian’s field notesFirst-hand experience, not a study. Don’t take it for the whole history.
